"I think it's quite obvious why we've done that," says Max Verstappen as Red Bull ditches its version of the Macarena wing.

The device is currently being checked by the FIA - as is Ferrari's version - following the Dutchman's crashes in Austria and Silverstone.

Speaking to reporters at Spa-Francorchamps the four-time world champion admitted that he agreed with the decision.

"I think it's quite obvious why we've done that," he said. "The team is doing everything it can to solve those issues. As soon as the new one is ready, we'll use it.

As was the case at Silverstone, especially in the Sprint, Verstappen expects energy management to be an issue this weekend.

"Silverstone and Spa are both difficult when it comes to energy management," he said. "It changes the way you have to approach certain corners because, for example, you arrive at them more slowly or with less power.

"As a driver, you can't really make the difference anymore in the high-speed corners. It's just something we have to deal with."

Asked whether he believes that Red Bull can still give him the tools with which to challenge for further titles, not to mention the loss of another high profile engineer (Principal Engineer, Michael Manning to Williams), Verstappen said: "We're just looking to the future, trying to fix the current issues that we have on the car, but that's a very open discussion.

"Sometimes you get a little bit disappointed or upset after a race," he added, "but, for example, after Silverstone you go home, you reset. On Wednesday, I was back at the factory and then you prepare again for the weekends ahead. That's how we've been operating all the years together.

"Of course, some years you're just a little bit more competitive than others, but in terms of my approach and how we work as a team, nothing really changes.

"People come and go," he said of Manning. "I think that's sometimes also part of the process. Sometimes you want people to stay, potentially, yes, but I think that's just how life is and how sport is as well. You just have to carry on and try to find new talent. That's what you also look at all the time, and that's what we do."

However, when asked if he will be with Red Bull next season, his demeanour changed.

"I don't want to go here and say yes and no, and this and that, about my future," he snapped. "I've said already many times that if there was something new, I would say it myself. Thank you."
